Locate the Approved Layout
Review the county record and any service drawings. Identify the tank, lines, field and reserved repair area. Missing records are a reason to define the investigation, not guess at the footprint.
Review Observable Field Conditions
Document accessible distribution parts, ponding, surface effluent and areas affected by traffic or grading. Relate observations to current use and weather.
Agree on Testing and Access
Excavation, camera work and flow testing are not automatically included in a visual review. Define the methods, limits and restoration expectations before work begins.
Look at Future Property Plans
A deck, driveway, pool or addition can conflict with the septic footprint or repair area. A condition review should be paired with the appropriate existing-system approval when a project changes the site.
Explain What the Findings Mean
Separate observed component problems from uncertainty about buried or seasonal performance. The report should identify reasonable next steps and any further soil, design or agency review needed.
